Hard Work Pays Off: How to Keep a Radiant Glow!-by Lynn Jenkins
Keeping your skin balanced and smooth with a healthy glow takes dedication but it doesn't have to be difficult. Most can benefit from a 3-4 product skincare routine used twice daily, morning and night.
Choose an effective but gentle cleanser, potent serum, hydrating moisturizer and sunscreen thats right for your skin type and skin concerns to create a daily routine you can easily stick with.
Here are some of the most common questions I get from my clients about choosing a skincare routine:
Question:
Why do I need to do my skincare routine twice daily?
Answer:
During the night while you sleep, the skin is renewing itself by shedding dead skin cells and creating newer, fresher more youthful cells. When you wake, its important to wash your face to help remove dead skin cells and to clear your pores of any sweat or residue that may have accumulated on your skin during the night. Freshly cleansed and hydrated skin in the morning helps create a smoother canvas for your makeup application.
At night, its imperative to remove all of your makeup and wash your face before going to bed. Never sleep in your makeup as this can cause clogged pores and contribute to breakouts, uneven texture and even dehydration. We know sometimes it can be hard after a long day but if you keep a pack of makeup remover wipes near your favorite chair, its easier to remove your makeup while you relax! Just be sure to do that quick cleanse and apply your moisturizer before heading to bed. Thinking about "out glowing" your co-workers the next day could be your incentive to take that 3 minute step before your beauty sleep.
Question:
Do I need to exfoliate or scrub my face everyday?
Answer:
No, aggressively exfoliating your skin on a daily basis can lead to dehydration resulting in excessive oil production and the appearance of acne. Using a daily mild exfoliating cleanser can be beneficial as long as the exfoliants contained in the cleanser are not derived from harsh ingredients. Try a daily gentle exfoliating cleanser that contains jojoba beads for a less abrasive cleanse and turn to a slightly more aggressive exfoliation once or twice per week in the evening to keep skin cells fresh and renewed. Try our Micro Derm Cleanser to gently polish and refresh your skin.
Question:
Do I need an eye cream? Can't I just use my face moisturizer around my eyes?
Answer:
The skin around the eyes is more delicate than the skin on the rest of the face and can tend to show signs of age a bit earlier than the rest of your face. Also, the skin around the eyes can only absorb moisture in small amounts. Its best to choose a product specifically formulated for the eye area, especially if your eyes need special care. Dark circles and puffiness concerns, for instance, will typically benefit from a more targeted eye treatment rather than your regular face moisturizer alone.
Question:
Do I need to apply a sunscreen? I don't plan to be in the sun.
Answer:
This is the most common skincare question I get from my clients! The sun's harmful rays can penetrate the windows in your home and your car while you're driving. Using sunscreen can help prevent early signs of age like fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation and skin cancer so yes, you should be applying a sun protection product daily!

Question:
I've been using the same skincare products for 10 years and I like them. Should I switch?
Answer:
Once you find a skincare routine that you and your skin love, it can be hard to switch to something different. Bear in mind that over time your skin's needs can change warranting more targeted ingredients. Skin concerns that could develop like hyperpigmentation, dehydration, acne breakouts, scarring etc...would perhaps need more than just your regular skincare routine. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean you should replace every product in your regimen but rather incorporate a new treatment product as needed. For instance, adding Vitamin C to your regimen can help brighten your complexion and renew your skin's glow!
