BOLD JOURNEY-Meet Lynn Jenkins

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lynn Jenkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lynn, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I have always been somewhat of a dreamer and an achiever. When I set my sights on something, I set goals to try to get there. What I wasn’t great at when I was younger was anticipating potential challenges along the way to meeting my goals. Through disappointments and failure, I have grown and learned to always consider the “what ifs”. Now, I am better prepared to be ready for anything and to expect that there will be challenges along the way.

I consider myself a thinker and while it has, at times, been difficult to restart after disappointment, I try to keep in mind the reason (s) why I started my entrepreneurial journey in the first place.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The Sydoni Skincare and Beauty brand is my lifelong dream come true. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to own a beauty store where I could provide beauty products and services with a personal touch to everyone who wanted it. After decades of serving in the beauty industry, my desire for this continued to grow as I met hundreds of women who, on a regular basis, would buy beauty products from many different brands without being completely convinced those products were right for them. Unfortunately, some of those products would end up in a drawer in their bathroom and never get used only to eventually be discarded.

At my store location, I can be available to my clients to answer any questions and to help them find products that address their skincare and makeup concerns as well as easily fit into their lifestyle. I think when people have a routine tailored for them personally it’s easier for them to maintain a regimen and get the results they want. There is nothing better than a client stopping back in to share how pleased they are with their new skincare or makeup and how great it’s working out for them! That’s my reward and my why!

The Sydoni Skincare and Beauty store location has six makeup stations and a full line of professional quality makeup and skincare for both Women and Men.

We have foundation, concealer, eyeshadows, powders, cheek color, bronzers, eyeliners, mascara, mink lashes, lipstick, lipgloss, lip liners and lip treatments.

Our skincare includes a brightening Vitamin C Collection, hydrating Rose Skincare Collection, Retinol, Anti-aging Collagen products and a detoxifying charcoal skincare collection for acne prone skin. We carry various beauty accessories like PRO makeup brushes, beauty blenders and puffs and we offer a superior collection of men’s skin and beard care as well.

Customers can shop with us and reach us via our website to have an order shipped or they can pick up in store and our online blog is a resource for unveiling the skincare and beauty tips our customers want.
The name SYDONI is a blend of my daughter’s names (Sydni and Soni) which, to me, is synonymous with unwavering strength and individual beauty as they were my inspiration to pursue my dream following my two-year breast cancer journey.

Sydoni Skincare and Beauty will have a booth at the upcoming 2023 Ultimate Women’s Expo located in Dallas September 30th-October 1st and we look forward to building new relationships and sharing all things beauty with our visitors!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Mental Clarity and Tenacity-Focus on your ability to bounce back after disappointments and make every effort to stay true to your purpose despite difficult times.
Managing Advice from Others-There will be lots of advice and opinions from friends and family along your journey so try to extract the important “nuggets” from each and carry those with you to draw from as needed.
Patience-Nothing happens overnight. Read, study, and learn your craft. Become an expert in your field so you can be a respected resource and mentor to others.

In the most recent years prior to opening the store location, I worked for Cosmeceutical skincare brands in sales and educational support of Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons and Aesthetic professionals throughout Texas and Louisiana.

I would advise anyone who is early in their journey to continue to learn as much as they can about their passion. Read, study and experience everything! Pay close attention to people and learn what they need in order to provide them with your valuable service. Focus, focus, focus on your dreams and when self-doubt enters the picture, and it will, try to remember why you started in the first place. Rest, seek clarity and start again. There is no time limit on your dream.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Years ago I read a book by an Author named Osho entitled Love, Freedom, Aloness: The Koan of Relationships. While there were many thought-provoking, impactful pieces throughout the book, this is one I never forgot “Only a truly Selfish Person Can Be Unselfish”
Take care of yourself first so you are ready for the long road ahead!
